Disclaimer: This “puffy paint” may very easily be confused by your child with body paint. For your sanity, make this an outdoor only craft.
My kids (and adorable nephews) absolutely LOVED playing with our own little concoction of “puffy paint.”
All you need for this simple sensory craft is one can of shaving cream + kids washable paint.
Sure, it didn’t take long for them to completely cover themselves head to toe in it, but I will say it is super easy to clean up and they will smell extra clean when it is all said and done 😉 Don’t worry, I’ll include all the hilarious messy photos at the end of this post.
The kids always love being apart of the process.
Some puffy paint recipes I have seen include things like glue, food coloring, etc. We weren’t actually making anything to keep with ours, so I just opted for something really simple and easy to clean.
If you are trying to actually paint something, you would need to use another recipe that is meant to dry out.
If you have younger kids, I definitely think the foam brushes are the way to go. They are much easier for the little ones to manipulate. I just let the kids loose in the backyard and let them paint leftover cardboard boxes. #auntoftheyear
We mixed in one drop of kid safe washable paint to a cup of shaving cream. This gave a little bit of color but not too much. You could always add more paint if you prefer – but since I was doing this as a sensory activity I opted for less mess.
Click here to order a really cheap set of paint off Amazon.
You can find shaving cream at Walmart, or anywhere really – for less than a dollar.
I told you thinks got messy.
Ok…maybe a little more than just “messy”
Miraculously, it didn’t get in ANYONE’s eyes!
If you make puffy paint with your little ones be sure to comment below because I definitely want to see the pictures!
