How I got started on eBay:
I began selling on eBay in 2011. I started off just by selling stuff around the house that I didn’t want. That’s when it clicked and my obsession began. I cleared out our closets and sold items collecting dust. I also started reselling clearance merchandise. I learned quickly how much I loved to find things for free or cheap and flip them for a profit. From 2011 until now, I have been selling off and on. Having two kids and moving every few years really puts a wrench into things! Now that my youngest is over a year old, and I have been healed from many years of living in chronic pain, I can really focus on my business.
What I currently sell:
I have an eBay Store that is open 24/7 and sells a variety of items such as children’s clothing, antiques, vintage clothing, high-end fashion, brand name clothing, shoes, accessories and more. I am a Top Rated PowerSeller always on the hunt for new merchandise.
Where I source inventory:
I generally circulate a few different thrift stores in the area on a weekly basis, and I also hit yard sales on the weekend when I can. Clearance racks are another place that I find eBay merchandise to resell.
Advice for beginners wishing to sell on eBay:
If someone is interested in selling on eBay, I would highly recommend understanding the selling process and fees prior to getting started. I highly encourage those interested in having a successful experience to doing your research beforehand. Fees on eBay can really eat into your profits if you don’t do your research ahead of time. A lot of people assume eBay is easy, but there really are a lot of steps involved when it comes to completing a sale. Anybody can sell on eBay if they put forth the time and effort needed.
Establishing feedback is absolutely CRUCIAL!!! A seller MUST have credibility in order to be successful. My advice for establishing good feedback is to always be completely honest in your listing descriptions and take lots and lots of photos! Also picture any defects if there are any. In my experience, fast shipping and superb customer service always go a long way for buyers.
Lastly, find experienced eBay sellers who share their tips and tricks online…youtube, facebook groups, blogs, etc. This can be a fantastic and easy way to learn. I personally really enjoy listening to Suzanne Wells. I provide eBay tips on my blog and really enjoy helping others succeed at being a stay home mom. Whether it is just for some extra spending money for a girls night out, or if you are looking to make a full-time income, you can succeed at both by selling on eBay with time and dedication.
Is it possible to earn a full-time income by selling on eBay?
Absolutely! It all comes down to finding the right product, having the time and putting in the effort. What you put into it is what you will get out of it. Unfortunately, not just anything will sell on eBay. You have to put a little bit of research behind each item you list to make sure you will receive a profitable return on your investment.
& best of all…
EBay allows me to stay home and raise my children. With that said, it is nearly impossible to concentrate on eBay during the day since my focus is entirely on my children, keeping up the house, dinner, chores, etc. Also, my hubby is a huge help when it comes to sourcing inventory, taking photos, working on listings etc. Thankfully because of him, I get so much done in the evenings. I think it is more realistic for a new seller to set small goals such as using eBay to pay for that new $50 eyeshadow palette you have been wanting, your kids birthday party, or an upcoming event or vacation. The sky is the limit, it all depends on how much effort you are willing to put into it.
Hope this post helps you as you embark on your journey to successful entrepreneurship!
