Sweater $3.99
Shirt $2.99
Skirt $3.99
How can you find clothes at such affordable prices? Thrift shopping of course! Thrift shopping and eBay selling go hand in hand, so I do consider myself a somewhat seasoned thrifter. Goodwill, local thrift stores, yard sales.. you name it, I’ve been there… & have found some pretty amazing deals!
It is always a bonus when I find that super cute something in my size…like this Talbots turquoise denim skirt for example. This piece was definitely a keeper! Talbots clothing is great quality and always holds up well for me. And for $3.99 — you can’t beat it!
A couple thrifting tips I’ve picked up along the way:
Don’t go thrift shopping unless you are in the mood
What I mean is, it does take some patience and effort. Thrift stores are not like regular department stores where everything is sorted by color and size. Some days I walk into the store, take a quick look around, and decide within ten seconds that everything in the store is complete and total junk. If I’m too tired, or if it’s that time of the month, I don’t end up with a great haul 😉 .
Dig
In order to find the hidden gems, you really have to dig. Take your time looking through the racks, because you never know what could be shoved in between those two really ugly sweaters.
Ask
Always ask the store employees if there are any special sales going on. Sometimes I forget to do this and then when I go to checkout, I realize that all furniture was 50% off. I could have been paying closer attention while I was browsing. Every store is different as far as sales go. Goodwill runs 50% off of certain colored barbs weekly, and other thrift stores have special days where you can get 20% off your purchase, etc. A little research goes a long way.
Check Every Section
You never know what you might come across in the children’s section. Sometimes I see women’s dresses in the children’s shirt area or women’s pants in the men’s section. These stores are generally not very organized.
Inspect
Always take the time to look over each item you plan to purchase. I usually do this while waiting in line to checkout. Check for bad stains and holes.
Keep An Open Mind
Alter a dress that you really love if need be – Find half off clothing for a dollar or two and use the fabric to craft with – turn a headboard into an entryway bench – the possibilities are endless!
